How do I send an editing order to an editor and get the files back?

An editing order sends raw files to an outside editor, such as Jasper Cole, and brings the finished work back to the project for review. Add the editor first on the Suppliers page, with the work types they cover.

Steps

  1. Open Editing and choose New order, or use "Send to editing" on a project's files.
  2. Search for the project, pick the work type and choose the editor. Nobody is chosen for you.
  3. Drop in the raw files, or tick folders already in the Library. Add the due date and instructions.
  4. Click "Create and send". The editor is emailed once every file has landed.
  5. In their portal, the editor downloads the raws and sends the finished work back. You get a bell.
  6. Open the order. Tick files that are right, and flag files that need changes with a note or a mark-up.
  7. Click "Request changes on N" for another round, or "Approve all" when it is done.
  8. Use "Deliver to client" to share the finished files.

Good to know

  • "Invite to portal" on the editor's record gives them their own Work page to download raws and upload finished work.
  • Each order has a Message button for a live chat with the editor.
  • Clients never see the editor's files until you approve them, unless you turn on "Deliver straight to client".
  • Client feedback reaches the editor only if you send it on.

What it does not do

  • An order needs at least one file.
  • Without a portal, your team records each status change and the files move through your usual sharing channel.
